12 ideas for your next photo book
Looking for a photo book idea? Here are 12 themes, from the summer holiday and a baby's first year to family recipes, with a tip for each.
1. The summer holiday
The classic. Follow the trip from setting off to the journey home, and write a few lines about each day. The landscape book gives the scenery room across the whole spread.
2. Baby’s first year
A chapter for each month, from the first days to the first birthday. Try taking a photo in the same spot every month, so you can see the baby grow.
3. The year gone by
The year’s best moments in one book: birthdays, holidays and all the ordinary days. Make one every year, and you’ll have a row of books on the shelf.
4. For the grandparents
Grandparents rarely see all the photos on your phone. A book of the grandchildren is something they can show off and leaf through again and again.
5. The wedding
Gather the photos from all the guests’ phones, and you’ll see the day from every angle. Order an extra copy for the parents.
6. The confirmation
From childhood to the big day. Mix old photos with ones from the party, and leave room for greetings from the family.
7. Studenten
The upper-secondary years, the friends and the white student cap. A gift that comes out again at the reunion.
8. Children’s drawings
Take a photo of the drawings before they disappear from the fridge. Write the child’s name and age, and what the drawing shows.
9. The family pet
From puppy or kitten to today. Pets are easy to photograph and often take up more of your phone than you’d think.
10. The house or garden through the year
Before and after: the renovation, the garden from spring to autumn, or the first year in a new home.
11. Family recipes
Grandma’s frikadeller and Granny’s kringle. Take a photo of each dish, and write the recipe next to it on a page with room for text.
12. The team’s season
Football, handball or Scouts. A photo of each child, the matches and the end-of-season party. Order a copy for each family.
Tips for any theme
- Think in chapters, with a beginning, a middle and an end.
- Mix large and small photos. Give the best ones a whole page.
- Write a little text: dates, places and a few words about what happened.
- Give the cover a title, so the book is easy to find on the shelf.
