How to make a photo book on your iPhone

Make a photo book on your iPhone, with no computer and no account. Here are the five steps, from choosing your photos to the book waiting at a parcel shop.

1. Download the app and choose your book

FamilyPrint is a free app for iPhone with iOS 18 or later. You don’t need to create an account. Open the app and get started.

First, choose which book you want to make. There are square and landscape books in several sizes, with a hard or soft cover. If you’re not sure, start with the square book with a hard cover. Both portrait and landscape photos fit on a square page. The differences are explained in Which photo book should you choose?

2. Choose your photos

Pick your photos straight from your photo library. You can use photos stored in iCloud too. The app fetches them in full size when it needs them, so your phone just needs to be online.

If the app can’t see all your photos, you’ve probably only given it access to selected photos. Open Settings on your iPhone, go to Apps › FamilyPrint › Photos, and choose Full Access.

Choose a few more photos than you think you’ll need. It’s easier to take a photo out than to hunt for a new one halfway through the book. How many you need is covered in How many photos do you need for a photo book?

3. Let the app lay out your photos

Once you’ve chosen, the app places the photos on the pages for you. That gives you a whole book to work on, rather than a pile of blank pages.

4. Make the book your own

Now adjust it until the book is the way you want it:

  • Swap photos and pages around.
  • Choose a layout for each page: one large photo, two or three side by side, or several in a grid. A page can hold from one to five photos.
  • To the edge or a white border. Let the photo run right to the edge of the page, or give it a white border.
  • Add text. Give the cover a title, and choose pages with room for a heading or a few lines.
  • Colour the pages, so the background suits the photos.
  • Zoom and move. Tap a photo and choose Rediger foto (Edit photo) to pick the crop.

When you edit a photo, the app shows how sharp it will be in print. If a photo is too small for its space, make it smaller or choose a layout with more photos. There’s more on this in Will your photos be sharp enough for a photo book?

The app saves as you go, so you can put the book down and carry on another day. Your designs are kept on your iPhone, so they disappear if you delete the app.

5. Flick through the book and order

We print the book exactly as you made it, and we don’t read it through first. So flick through it in the app before you order. Look out for typos, empty spaces and faces close to the edge: when a photo runs right to the edge, the printer trims off a few millimetres.

You pay in the app, and the price in the basket is the final price, including VAT and delivery. If you’d like more copies, choose how many in the basket. If the book is going straight to someone else, enter their name and address.

If you’ve forgotten something, you can change or cancel the order within the first hour after you’ve ordered.

What does it cost, and when will the book arrive?

A photo book costs from DKK 229. That price is for the minimum number of pages, and extra pages cost from DKK 5 per 2 pages. Delivery costs DKK 59, and the book is ready at a GLS parcel shop near you 4–5 working days after you order. You can follow it in the app under Konto › Bestillinger (Account › Orders).

All the sizes and prices are on the photo books page and under Prices and delivery.
